Going far beyond the tried-and-tested band lineup, Ennïs Tóla blends edgy and raw guitar-driven riffs with other sounds such as Japanese Koto, Woodwind and Strings. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Ennïs Tóla is a collaboration between Tomas Fitzgerald [Guitars and Vocals], Karen Heath [Woodwinds and Japanese Koto], Chris Hitch [Bass], Thom Mann [Drums] and Ryan McRobb [Guitar and Effects].
Their first album ‘Seed’ [to be released 2010], catapults a uniquely world-music oriented sound into a mix of powerful, Buckley-esque vocals and melodic odd-time signatures. Although progressive in nature, the band defy simple categorisation with their individual sound and ability to reach into vastly different styles of music for inspiration. Constantly working, Ennïs Tóla have not paused since the completion of their debut album, having recorded already for their second album at Abbey Road Studios, London. Bringing in a string trio and working with engineers Lewis Jones and Paul Pritchard, their latest output inserts a distinct ‘Masada’ [John Zorn] meets Brodsky Quartet meets Muse feel into the already heady mix of progressive, raw music, making Ennïs Tóla one band to keep your eye on.

Caught these guys the other day… blew me away. So tight and full and an amazing sound – haven’t heard anything like it, really. Will def see more of Ennis Tola.
