Blow the Fuse is a night of funk, grooves and electronics guaranteed to get your body movin’ and groovin’. Held at Bar 303 in High St, Northcote on the 5th of November, the evening will take you on a musical journey from the immersive sounds of electronica to the stirring blasts of funk. Three bands, Bulke, Cellula and the Megahorns, will bring their distinctive sounds to the night. All are just as good for sittin’ and chillin’ as they are for serious dancing!
Opening the night is Bulke (www.myspace.com/bulkesounds), a blend of tech-house, bassline, and krautrock, laced with sprinklings of global folk, and geared towards the dancefloor. The band was founded on the basis of a love for the electronic sounds coming out of Berlin. Bulke have just released a mixtape of live performances, and recently supported international DJ/Producer the Bandish Projekt.
Following are Cellula’s electro-funk breakscapes with the vocal talent of Mhz Amida (www.cellula.com.au). Prepare to enter a landscape of swirling synths and fresh live bass lines. Their funk orientation combines instrumental breaks that cross culture and styles in a textured digital creation. Cellula have recently had a string of successful performances throughout Victoria, and will release their new mini album, Language, on Automata Recordings in October 09.
The Megahorns (www.myspace.com/megahorns) sound is a heavy base of funk with a smothering of hip hop, a good handful of pop, a strong dash of soul and a sprinkling of assorted cool stuff. The band has grown into a regular fixture of Melbourne’s live music scene, tearing up venues such as The Espy, The Corner Hotel and The East Brunswick Club, and has supported such high profile acts as the Cat Empire.
So come one, come all, put on your party gear, head down to 303 and prepare to Blow the Fuse.
