The Melbourne Writers Festival with The Indigenous Literacy Project is proud to present a benefit concert featuring some of Australia’s leading musicians. The concert will feature performances from Australian musical stars including Archie Roach & Ruby Hunter (right) and readings from ambassadors Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy, Tara June Winch and Andy Griffiths, along with writers from the Wilcannia community.

The Indigenous Literacy Project is a national Australian Book Industry initiative which has raised over $500 000 to address the crisis in literacy in remote indigenous communities.

The Project is run in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation and funds raised are used to deliver books and literacy resources into the communities.

The patron for the project is Therese Rein and project ambassadors have been nominated from across the book and entertainment industries, and include Felix Reibl, Geraldine Brooks, Kaz Cooke, Josh Pyke and David Malouf.

Felix Reibl, co-lead singer from The Cat Empire, has chosen to help raise awareness and funds by bringing together friends and music industry colleagues for a night of songs and stories.
