We all know how it is. We look forward to the weekend where we can finally do what we want, and then Saturday night comes and suddenly we have too many options to choose from.

A Gecko street party in full swing
Which venue do I want to go to? Looking through the gig guide I find 3 or 4 gigs that I just can’t choose from, and no matter where I end up going, I feel like I’m missing out on the others.
Finally there’s something that gets rid of the FOMO. As soon as the clock hits 12am, I’m down on the corner of Brunswick St and Johnston St, ready and revving to dance to the fat funk sounds of Gecko. and the best part, it’s free!
The full range of standards and improvisational skills means that i never know what I’m gonna get each week. However, what I do know is that by the end of the night I will have danced for 3 or 4 hours with 50 to 60 people that I’ve never met before, to music I can’t fault.
For those who aren’t content just to listen to music, but may feel too shy for dancing, the night still promises to be amazing if you want to bring down your own percussion or instruments to join in, making this a seriously hands-on musical experience.
Saturday the 15th was no different, treating us all to non-stop dancing entertainment, and setting the scene for another great album of photos.
I also feel it necessary to mention that Gecko is a combination of 2nd and 3rd year VCA students, a true testament to the current VCA structure, so as you all enjoy the photos, please keep in mind who and how this was made possible, and I’ll see you all on the 5th of September for the next big FREE Gecko experience!
